Question Time

I've been feeling better lately and able to get around without the walking stick.  My foot is still a little sore, but not anywhere as bad as it was last week.  So, I thought to do something totally different and take a page out of another blogger's post and have a go at what they're doing.  I thought to get you guys to ask me any question you like - and I'd like to avoid a few things on this one too (like this blogger) and please keep your questions to:

Basic likes and dislikes
books and reading
writing and blogging
gardening
music and bands
movies

So, let's keep the questions clean and unloaded (I mean no politics and nothing on religion please as I don't want to talk about that here).  And until my next post, happy reading.

  1. What prompted you to become a writer?

    1. I've wanted to be a writer since my teacher taught me to write my name. When we did this, it kind of connected a lot of dots for me. Seeing I could read, I knew there had to be something else to the words - a way to getting them out there - and so when I learned how to put pen to paper, that was it, my love of writing began. I was 6-years-old.

  2. Since you're gardening now, what is favorite plant, flower, or tree? I am not a gardener myself, but I love being in gardens and nature. I have too many plants, trees, flowers to have a favorite.

    1. Oh... there's so many plants I love here in Australia. One of them is the Gloxinia. It's a difficult plant to grow and once you've developed the conditions for it, these little darlings grow beautifully. They have no scent and put off lovely flowers.
I also love Frangipannis. They flower during Spring and Summer and lose their leaves in Winter (the best time to clip their branches and pot them for more of the plants as they grow really well from clippings).
There's also a poisonous one called 'The Naked Lady' which is poisonous from flower, leaf, branch, roots... right through to its sap. I broke a piece off a massive plant at the pool of my unit complex (the thing really isn't supposed to be there) and potted it in my back yard. After much trial and error, I have found its sweet spot in the yard and now, it's surviving well. I rarely touch it; and when I do, I scrub my hands well. But it's growing. It's worthwhile growing one of these in pot as they grow so slowly and live on neglect - like most of my plants. But when I have visitors, I do warn them I have it in my yard so they don't touch it; unless they spot it first. :)
Next to my townhouse is three Lilly-Pilly Trees. The possums have a lot of fun eating the berries - which are okay to eat if you're really desperate for food - but they make a great preserve. I love the smell of these trees when it rains in Summer... it's a nice and lovely sweet smell of the fermented fruit. I know that sounds gross, but it does smell nice. :)

  3. So, is 'The Naked Lady' part of the euphorbia genus/family?

    1. I'm not sure. However, my Grandma used to have one of these plants in her garden... and it took a long time to grow and it was in a pot as well. So, I think keeping it in a pot is a good idea.
